Zach Wheeler – Another Hidden Land Mine

Here we go once again. Zach Wheeler becomes the latest to have an MRI come out with harsh results. The UCL in his throwing arm has a full tear, and he will likely be the next to go under the knife.

All of these hidden land mines just make you want to hold off on pitchers until the 8th or 9th round. They are dropping like flies. You can now count on 3 things in life: death, taxes and Tommy John patients. (see: Tommy John Prospects)

So, what does this mean for us in our fantastical world? In five words: Dillon Gee and Noah Syndergaard.

Gee had been demoted to the bullpen up to this point, but may be moved back into the 5th spot in the rotation.

Meanwhile, Syndergaard is waiting in the wings for his big debut. He could prove to be a decent late round sleeper, but you’ll need to monitor this situation as it develops.
